Many fans of UK-underground based music feel a rush of energy whenever the ‘Oi!’ brand is involved. The team responsible for many iconic Amsterdam rave nights celebrated their 20th anniversary with a reunion party in the Paradiso. Long before the party started, ravers queued up in front of the iconic venue. And for a good reason, because the legendary London duo Stream & Benga made a reappearance after years of absence. Back in 2010, they tore down Paradiso and disbanded shortly thereafter. For many fans, this night was the source of pure nostalgia.


Unexpectedly, Dutch partner in crime Brutuzz opened the evening in Paradiso’s basement area, which immediately drew questions about the event’s size. While the Oil!-veteran filled the basement with people and bassy wobbles, the final preparations for a chaotic night were underway in the main hall. Once the hall opened, organizer and heavy hitter DJ Gomes carried the dutiful task of setting the venue ablaze. Wielding a big stack of timeless classic tracks, the DJ effortlessly delivered a prime quality set two decades after the inception of their nightlife concept.

The groovy vibe continued right up until the main course, a Skream b2b Benga DJ set, almost blew the church roof off the venue. 100 minutes of ridiculous beatcuts, moshpits and loud sing-alongs brought the crowd back to that insane 2010 night, sending men wielding gunfingers and ravegirls into a frenzy. Benga lunged himself at Skream laughingly after a ridiculous streak of mixes, which gave the impression the duo never took time off. Carried by an intense minute-long applause, the two Croydon natives announced their final record with a smile.

That wasn’t the end of the hammering, as Neffa-T decided to switch up the mood and bring a Techno-infused set right after the duo. Having had a moment to breathe, Dutch DJ Moroman took no mercy and drenched the audience in hardcore Dubstep & Bassline, giving the audience exactly what they craved for. More than half of the attendees raved until the wee hours of the morning. Two decades after its inception, we can safely say OI! remains undefeated.
